Builders of steam locomotives in Britain incorporated capsules of aniseed oil (anise) into bearings so that the distinctive smell would give warning in case of overheating.
I thought it was maybe pleasry, allowed to bloom so it would reseed. But now, I think I’ll agree with the others about it being dill! Whatever it is, it’s beautiful and SO dramatic in black and white!
