I am happy to report that the 2015 AAS Winner Basil Dolce Fresca is everything that was promised. The germination rate on the seeds was excellent. After setting aside 6 plants for the AAS Display Garden at Rutgers Gardens, we had enough plants left over to make up a full flat to sell at Spring Flower Fair.
The 6 seedlings were moved out of the greenhouse and planted in the AAS Display Garden after Spring Flower Fair. I checked on them at the end of May and was not impressed. A week later, they had put on some height.
After weeks of rain and finally some hot weather, the Dolce Fresca are doing great. What impresses me most is that they are maintaining their round compact shape like a bush basil but the leaves are the size of a regular basil, not the tiny leaves normally found on bush basils.
